One of the goals of 3D-Readers™ is to train readers to apply metacognitive strategies to all text genres in all formats.
After mastery has been achieved on the hybrid modules (containing narrative and expository text), students should be able to apply these strategies to purely expository text.
In the 3D-Readers Modules, students are trained in several research-based metacognitive strategies and they then practice these strategies to build life-long reading skills. The strategies are backed by decades of research and have been specifically cited in the National Reading Panel Report (2000).
There are two types of embedded strategies in 3D-Readers :
Verbal - question generation and answering open-ended questions
Visual - constructing mental models
